What Is Homeopathy?
homeopathy. health.

It is a natural and holistic system of medicine that aims to remove the cause of a disease or an illness, as opposed to alleviate or suppress its’ symptoms. Often, we assume that we are ill once we exhibit signs and symptoms of a disease. However, our body undergoes processes of attempting to fight against disease and heal itself without us being aware. In other words, if we do not physically feel or see a disease does not mean that it is not already occurring. Once signs and symptoms become apparent, such as a fever, a sore throat, pain, inflammation, etc., it is our bodies’ way of indicating to us that a disease, illness or infection has already progressed. This may present in days to years, differentiating acute from chronic disease. It is here that Homeopathy becomes significantly important to consider as your first line of defence against disease. During my years of study, a lecturer once used a very interesting analogy to help us understand the fundamental action of homeopathy. Think of a roof that leaked each time it rained. Would you
A. put buckets down each time to catch the water? (even though each time it rained, the holes in your roof worsened until your house eventually flooded); or
B. fix your roof?
(The homeopathic route would be fixing your roof of course and keeping it in good condition as we know prevention is better than cure). Food for thought..

How does Homeopathy work and how do we prescribe?
I have been asked this question numerous times as many people have heard of Homeopathy and know that we are ‘natural doctors’ but what differentiates us from other modalities is our approach. Many people believe that Homeopathy takes longer to work but as explained above, when healing begins we may not even be aware of it. As we treat the cause and not the symptoms, we tend to do more ‘detective’ work to investigate what is producing such symptoms instead of prescribing for symptoms itself. In Homeopathy we treat holistically, meaning we take all aspects of your being into account – lifestyle, sleep, eating habits, stress, family history, life events etc. We strive to know your entire being thus helping us find out WHY you are presenting with such symptoms.

What can homeopathy treat?
Homeopathy can help manage and treat a vast amount of ailments. Each remedy prescribed is individualized so no two patients with the same ailment will get the same prescription.
Homeopathy can help treat the following:
• skin ailments such as eczema, psoriasis, acne
• mental and emotional ailments such as anxiety, depression
• musculoskeletal ailments: arthritis, joint pain and inflammation
• high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes: management of these with lifestyle advice is very important
• hormonal imbalance causing PMS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, menopause, thyroid dysfunction or prostate enlargement
• digestive ailments: IBS, ulcers, dysbiosis, leaky gut syndrome
• autoimmune diseases
• childhood diseases
• tiredness or fatigue or other non specific ailments

Part of homeopathic treatment is also health and lifestyle advice as we now know that health is not just the absence of disease but your mental, emotional and physical being working harmoniously. As a holistic practitioner it was my vision to have a space that would provide information, treatment and availability to healthy and organic food. We can proudly say we have now established that!
Here is a quote I once read that was quite thought provoking but so true at the same time:
“Look after your body. It is the only place you have to live.”
